In The Matter of Omar Khadr - Shame On Us You either support high standards of justice or you don’t. In this case, most Canadians, along with their government, do not. If you ever thought Canadians were a progressive, fair-minded people who believed in equal rights before the law, these soundings tell a different story. There have been no less than four such court verdicts, all of them favouring, if not ordering, Mr. Khadr’s repatriation. In spurning these rulings, we’re effectively joining our Conservative government in saying: “Thanks for your efforts, dear justices, but we prefer the kangaroo court.” |

Omar Khadr`s Military Comissions Trial Condemned “After eight years of ignoring its human rights obligations, the USA is now set to try Omar Khadr under procedures that fail to meet international fair trial standards,” Rob Freer continued. “History will not judge its actions kindly”. On Monday, a military judge ruled that statements made by Omar Khadr during his time in custody would be admissible during the trial, rejecting a defence motion that the statements should be excluded as the product of torture or other ill-treatment. “It took this military judge about 90 seconds to rule, without explanation, that any statement this young detainee made during that time can be admitted against him,” said Amnesty International. |

We have long known, since the creation of the military commissions, that the question of torture is at the heart of these proceedings. Since Omar Khadr first announced he had been abused while detained at Bagram and Guantánamo, we've faced the shameful possibility that he could be convicted using confessions extracted through torture and abuse. In an affidavit, Khadr has described how he was denied pain medication for his injuries, hooded, menaced by barking dogs, used as a "human mop" after he was forced to urinate on himself, and threatened with rape. |

Testimony shows that Omar khadr is innocent of the Allegations made against him Omar Khadr's defence team says it has expert testimony indicating the soldier he is accused of killing died as a result of injuries inflicted by an American grenade. The lawyers say the evidence will be added to the results of the defence's wider investigation of the July, 2002, firefight, and show that the American assault had been a "botched operation." The claim follows the lawyers' release of videotapes of Canadian officials interrogating Mr. Khadr that -- beyond snippets they highlighted showing him crying or pulling at his hair -- include statements he made that the prosecution in his war crimes case will have analyzed. |

Pictures Proove Omar Khar Is Innocent In Death of US soldier Guantanamo detainee Omar Khadr was buried face down under rubble, blinded by shrapnel and crippled, at the time the Pentagon alleges he threw a grenade that fatally wounded a U.S. soldier, according to classified photographs and defence documents obtained by the Star. The pictures, which were taken following a 2002 firefight in Afghanistan and have never been made public, show the then 15-year-old Canadian covered in bricks and mud from the roof of a bombed compound. The body of an adult fighter – the unnamed man Khadr's lawyers contend could have thrown the grenade that killed U.S. Sgt. Christopher Speer – lies beside him. |

Mock Justice Why Omar Khadr Should Walk Free You’re 15 years old, in the company of associates of your father. A foreign army has invaded the country and unleashed a massive bombing campaign. Soldiers come knocking one morning and demand entry. The men around you refuse and a firefight ensues, culminating in the occupying air force bombarding the compound you’re in, killing everyone but you and one other person. What happens next is disputed. As the soldiers enter the bombed-out compound a grenade is thrown and explodes near one of them. He later dies of his wounds. Based on witness reports, the thrower could have been one of three people: you, the man lying beside you, or a U.S. soldier outside the compound wall. The man beside you is shot by an advancing soldier as he reaches for an AK-47 lying beside him. Cowering in the corner, you, in turn, are shot twice in the back. As shock sets in, you plead with the soldiers to kill you, to finish the job. You are Omar Khadr. Your ordeal has barely begun. |
