Working To assist Ex-Prisoners
The Guantanamo Justice Centre was founded by ex-prisoners of Guantanamo Bay Who are working to seek justice for those still incarcerated and those who have been released. One of the many stigmas that are still carried by those who have been released is being constantly referred to as "terrorists suspects" and yet none of the men who have been released have ever been charged with a crime nor were they convicted of any offence.
Trying to re-build a life with these kinds of stigmas is extremely difficult. Even though these men have been proven innocent, and have suffered great injustices. Years of peoples lives have been snatched away without even a hint of an apology.
They have been subjected to torture, some have sufferd the amputation of limbs due to appalling medical practices in the american run prison camps, psychological torment - which was closely monitored by psychologists and doctors who were complicit in their mental torture, and many suffer from a variety of physical ailments from torture, and also being confined to tiny cells for many years without exercise.
The Guantanamo Justice Centre seeks to practically assist to help these men rebuild their shattered lives, in helping them get the skills needed to get back into the workplace, and for medical and psychological treatment. .
